GALVESTON BAY FISHING REPORTS

4-26-08 - Fishing this week has been very good for trout. We have been catching quantity & quality. From last Friday 4-18 we have been on some solid fish. Last weekend we were fishing up & down the causeway. Some days were excellent & some weren't. Two factors why the action slowed & believe it or not it wasn't the wind! The reasons 1- too much boat action 2- a full moon. The good news is that the trout are starting to show up in a lot of other places now. It's that time of the year when fishing really turns on everywhere. May is one of my favorite months to fish. May consistently produces limits or near limits of trout, but there are some big ones (6-9 pound trout) still out there. We will be trying some new areas this next week. The mid bay reefs in East bay should start producing some good trout this week with the good weather. My brother & I will be participating in some workshops & seminars at Bass Pro Shops Pearland in May. You can check out their website for the dates & times or call me & I'll be glad to fill you in. We do these for our customers & people who want to learn more about fishing & it's a great opportunity for you to ask questions. Well until next week, I'll see you on the water.

4-16-08 - Well I am not going to complain about the wind in this report. I have to remind myself that every year in March & April the winds are very strong & come from every direction. As for the catches this week - trout have been more consistent in West Bay this past week. West Bay has held some good water even with the strong winds. The trout have ranged from 16-25 inches. Last Friday the 11th the water was flat & everyone caught trout.(Lots of trout) Over the weekend we headed out to the jetties with good catches of sheephead, redfish, drum & some gafftops. Then on Monday & Tuesday it was back to the trout. I look for fishing to just get better & better from this point on ! I wanted to remind you all that I will be at Bass Pro Shops (Pearland) this Saturday the 19th giving some fishing seminars. If you want to come by & visit & maybe listen to a seminar, I will be there from 11a.m.- 4p.m. Well hope to see some of you out there if you aren't fishing. Check back with us next week. See you on the water.

4-10-08 - Wind, wind, go away ! Well needless to say the wind has played a big role in our trips & catches this week. I had to reschedule two trips this week. Believe me there are some protected areas that we can fish when the wind is up, but when the wind is over 25mph I personally don't like to go out. We want our customers to come back, refer us to others & most of all enjoy the trip. Even if you get on fish, when the wind is too high it make the experience hard to enjoy. We did catch some fish early in the week & on the weekend. The winds & water were decent. With the water temp. up, if we can get the wind to lay down this time of the year is usually when the trout & overall fishing really turns on. We usually try many different areas through out our bay system. From now until mid May has traditionally been GREAT fishing. If you get a chance call us to book a trip. By the way I will be having three seminars on April 19th at Bass Pro Shops (11am-1pm-3pm) Pearland location. I will be talking about fishing in Galveston Bay. I will also be in the store all day to help customers & answer questions. So if you get a chance come by and visit with me. Check back with us next week.  See you on the water.

4-2-08 - Before I give this weeks report I want to remind everyone that this time of the year (March & April) brings a lot of windy & sometimes tough weather. We have to deal with north winds one day then south the next. When the bay receives that kind of treatment it can make it hard to stay on trout. The good news is that the weather here can change for the good just as quickly. On those days fishing can be great. West bay has produced some good trout lately. Carancahua reef and the Confederate reef area seem to be the hot spots. When it has been rough we have had to settle for some reds, drum, sheephead and some nice whiting. It all depends on mother nature. If we can string together some decent weather the trout action should heat up. The water temp. is rising almost daily and the time is right for the trout bite to be more consistent. We usually see a big change in the bay system this time of year. From now until May we will be using live shrimp & some soft plastics to catch our fish. We have some openings in the next couple of weeks, just give us a call if you want to get on the water.
